Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee

lighthearted medium-paced

3.5

I really enjoyed this simple, cute, young adult MM romance.
In this story you are following Dylan and Theo who happen to meet one night while Dylan is delivering a food order for his aunts restaurant that he works at. I wont go into details as that would spoil their adorable meet cute. I will simply say that his story was full of Singaporean culture, a well developed plot, and characters that were easy to root for.
I do want to preface this by saying this is rich/poor trope so if that's not your thing you may not enjoy this story. Some of the problems do get solved fairly easily with Theo swooping in with a funnel of cash which was irksome but overall the book and their journey was very cute with lots of good tension/cute moments together. Keeping in mind that these two characters are in high school, its not shocking that Theo's first reaction is to just push money at the situation as a 17 year old just trying to help out his crush. Easy solution for an easy problem right? That is how a teenager brain thinks so for me it made sense.
I really enjoyed listening to this on audio book as the narrator was fluent in the language and so hearing the correct pronunciations was a very fun experience. I got to learn the significance of mooncakes and the bonding that occured with these two characters with their shared background.
If you are looking for a light hearted, easy romance with no spice. This was a fun listen.
I snagged this audio book through the libby app.
