Rendezvous with Rama
by Arthur C. Clarke
An extrasolar entity dubbed Rama arrives in our system and a team of astronauts set out to explore it.
The prose and most of the plot are as dry and sterile as Rama itself. For the first three-quarters of the book not much happens. Most of the text is dull, scientific descriptions of the interior of Rama that reads like a novelization of a geometry textbook.
In the last quarter things get a little more interesting, but never go much beyond a medium heat. There is danger and discovery, but it's always anticlimactic and ultimately of no real consequence.
One hell of a final sentence though.
