Thing 1: this book is brutal. The rape scenes are fairly graphic, as as the murders. 

Thing 2: this book dragged me in and would not let go. I didn't even particularly like any of the characters; that really isn't important. This kind of big, slow-ish paced unraveling of a mystery that picks up speed as it goes ... yeah. 100% my jam.
