- It pains me to admit this, but I think I much prefer Emezi’s adult novels to their YA ones. This one in particular I think could have been a novella.
- I very much liked the bond between Somadina and Jayaike, and that kept me interested in finding out what happened. I also appreciated how Emezi explored the feeling of having a body the rest of the world didn’t understand.
- I found myself tuning out of the audiobook, as the main quest didn’t start until about halfway through, and even then it was long stretches of not much between battles.
