What a way to conclude the rat series, this was definitely the best book of it. This series just got better and better and the ending did it justice. As always, I LOVE the characters. They are always so unique, and by unique I mean odd, but odd in a good way and you can never tell wether they’re good or bad, they’re just there adding to the story. Like Yuki’s parents, they’re very dislikable because of what they’ve done to Yuki, but once the narrator meets them both, they just become so much less dislikable even though that really shouldn’t be the case. And Yuki herself is so interesting as a character, but her relationship with the narrator is quite questionable.
The story is fairly simple to follow but also so complex at the same time. The way everything ties together and the way he brings in parts from other books and just the way he writes is too good! I love that the book ends where it started, at the dolphin hotel, yet so much happened in between. His books are like dreams that you just can’t get enough of, so if you’re getting into Murakami read at your own risk.
