I get why this is popular. It does a good job of using some popular tropes and methods to keep the reader hooked.

Nothing unique about the love triangle. Some pretty typical use of miscommunication.

The rest is a lot of mistakes the main characters make and are unable to face the consequences so things get messy.

Reese Witherspoon loves a crazy plot twist at the end for her book club picks. This has that for sure. She also likes a book that puts people in an impossible position and leaves you to judge or not judge the actions taken by the characters. Always entertaining. But in never got really sucked in or attached to the point of it being particularly moving.
