Crave

I don't know what made me think, at 30, I could get into teenage vampire romance novels. Maybe I thought I hated Twilight as much as I did because I was a millennial caught up in the Twilight vs HP wars but if I gave things another go with a different but similar novel, it would be not as bad. I picked this up from Libby because it kept popping up at the top of the list of available audiobooks.
This is no Twilight, but it tries to be, and badly? How is that possible?
It takes place in Alaska but I forgot that about 25% into the novel because nothing about this has anything to do with Alaska. In fact, the supernatural school is apparently a castle which is the least Alaskan thing ever. The book spends very limited time world-building, and possibly even less time character building.
I also hate when a big deal is made of a reveal that is given away by the back summary (or the cover art). Surprise, at literally 50% of the way into the book, it is revealed the male love interest is a vampire. Gasp! I am so glad we spent so much time building up to this moment.
I don't even know what took up so much time because the setting and characters were so flimsy.
1.5 stars for the relationship dynamics not being as problematic as Twilight to my recollection, rounded down because I have actually really enjoyed some vampire novels with romance in them, so I feel I can stand by a one star rating as a fair one.
