The Magicians by Lev Grossman

2.0

The story was okay even if it was derivative - one half Harry Potter for teenagers, one half Narnia for atheists - if it wasn't for one thing.

That one thing is Quentin bloody Coldwater, the the biggest twat I've encountered in a book in many a long year. He's a jammy bugger as we say in my part of the world, someone who always manages to find good luck without making any effort on his part. He's the very epitome of the entitled rich kid who spends the whole time whining about how awful his life is, when all he does is make the lives of everyone around him even worse. I almost rage quit reading the book in the second half because I hated him so much.

Needless to say, I won't be reading the rest of the series, unless of course he isn't in them, something I rather doubt.
