My Summary: 27-year-old Elle is a screenwriter who has been stuck with writer's block for months, but the problem is she has to finish her screenplay by the end of the summer. She's housesitting an apartment in New York City to get some inspiration when she bumps into her neighbor--a billionaire tech CEO, Parker, she just so happened to have a steamy makeout session with a couple of years ago. He has been her hate-filled muse for the past few years, but there's no way he remembers her. When Parker asks Elle to be his fake girlfriend for the summer, they make a deal that he takes her around New York City to the spots where her screenplay will be filmed if she accompanies him to events and photo ops. Will Elle be able to set aside her hatred of Parker and see that there's more to their relationship than just loathing? Or will she be stuck in her old ways unable to see past his money?
My Thoughts: I went into Summer in the City with little to no expectations and came away having enjoyed the read! Though I'm not a huge billionaire romance girly, I loved the dynamic between Parker and Elle. There were times Parker did splurge quite a few (million) dollars on Elle, but there were a lot of moments of levity where he donated his money, too, which I truly appreciated. He definitely didn't fit the billionaire stereotype I'm used to. Sometimes Elle did seem a little in the way of her own happiness, but aren't we all? Summer in the City focuses on the emotional baggage we bring into relationships and how that can affect their dynamics and ultimate outcomes.
Overall, I loved the vibes and fake dating of this book and recommend it to those looking for a fun read this summer.
