The authors do I good job of showing the complexities and struggles that trans people go throw, on the surface level. How relationships can change as soon as someone finds out a person is trans, that not all relationships can survive, but for others it makes them stronger, and everywhere in between. They explore the assumptions that cis-people have, that not all trans people are the same, and not all choose to or want to be open about their being trans and that "it does not matter" and "it is no-one's business".
