The Truth About Dukes by Grace Burrowes
4.0
"The same ignoramuses who think the falling sickness is a sign of God's disfavor think the poor are lazy and stupid. You never saw a harder-working, more resourceful, wily, self-discipline, and determined batch of people than the nearly destitute. Before the hope gets kicked out of them, they are unstoppably ingenious and tireless in their efforts to survive."
Robert was sent to an abusive private asylum because of his falling sickness. His father put out that he was dead. He survived 10 years, before his brother discovers him and rescues him. Robert had been contemplating suicide when Constance was hired as a maid, at the asylum. Her spirit and caring saved him and he battles his phobias for her.
Enjoyed the characters.
