I don't quite know what to think of it.
I started this book with the background of having seen the Netflix series, but now I think that may have been a mistake. The passages from the book that were included in the Netflix series were what drew me to the book (and they delivered), but I think what spoiled the "horror" of this story was that I kind of knew what would happen. Even though the series takes some big liberties from the book, the essence is still the same. However, some of that series knowledge also helped while reading.
The book (especially the conversations) were sometimes quite confusing when people started talking all over each other and about different topics.

The last few chapters, starting with the arrival of Mrs. Montague, were really good and had me the most interested in the story and the haunting.

It may have been a case of reading this book too late, but the prose is still amazing!
