Girls Under Pressure by Jacqueline Wilson

4.0

This was a quick, adorable read that was definitely lots of fun! Although GIRLS UNDER PRESSURE is second in a series, it worked completely well as a stand alone novel. Basically, this is the story of Ellie, a young teenage girl who begins to reexamine her body, after accompanying her stick-figure thin friend to a modelling search. When a stranger randomly calls Ellie fat, she begins a quest to find SKINNY -- and she is determine to meet her goal, even if it means starving herself or teaching herself to purge after her meals.

The voice of Ellie was extremely relateable, with the potential exception of her big revelation at the end, which felt a teeny bit rushed and contrived. I assume that this novel was once published under a British publication of some sort, because the story is filled with British slang and phrases, some of which were even a bit unfamiliar to me. It wasn't enough to distract from the story line, and I found myself really enjoying the character of Ellie, as well as her two best friends, and I am glad I stumbled upon this novel at my local library.

I'm definitely a sucker for anything about eating disorders, and I was not disappointed by GIRLS UNDER PRESSURE.
