This book starts off all about revenge. Bastion feels like he has reasons to get revenge on his birth mother. Bastion plans to use Hattie to get that revenge. Bastion's mom has a new family and life that includes Hattie. Bastion only remembers his mother as a drug addict that didn't take care of him, ever. Bastion intentionally meets naive Hattie and lures her away from her home. Bastion conviently arranges for Hattie to come to the town he lives and work for him. Hattie is kind of like a naive former nun. Hattie doesn't have it in her to do anything bad or hurt people's feelings. Bastion isn't like Hattie. Bastion is a rich carefree playboy who works in the "entertainment industry." Bastion knows how to play Hattie like a fiddle! Will revenge be everything Bastion imagined?
