Guardians of the Galaxy by Al Ewing, Vol. 1: Then It's Us by Al Ewing

2.0

The first half of this, fighting against some ultra-powerful reborn pantheon, was mostly self-explanatory. The second half completely confused me. This is one of those examples of a "Volume 1" that is not even close to being a starting point for the title. It starts off vaguely establishing that the Guardians have just returned from some strenuous event and need some RnR time. But it doesn't explain why the flark suddenly Groot is speaking in full sentences but the others are just able to say "I am _____," except maybe when Groot's not around and they talk normally? I don't know. That's just not the kind of thing to throw into a first volume of a new run without some introductory exposition to catch the reader up. I don't know anything about this Perfect Hero World that apparently has variants of different characters existing on the same world now either.

What I loved most was the final issue, focusing on Moondragon and her double/variant. I want to learn more about her, but I was really counting on the good writing of Al Ewing allowing me to jump on at this point without needing to catch up on the last however many years.
