Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins

5.0

"Rosie's Walk" is adorable! I read this book because a friend of mine said it's great, and he was totally right.

I didn't know anything about "Rosie's Walk" or Pat Hutchins before I started reading, and the first thing that caught my attention was the fantastic folk art style. The detailed patterns are beautiful, especially on the fox.

Based on the old-fashioned art style, I wasn't expecting a laugh. But the thing I like most about "Rosie's Walk" is the sense of humor! This book was published in 1968, and the over-the-top slapstick humor has still got it. The best part is that the words are all about Rosie the chicken and the fox is never even mentioned, which mimics Rosie's obliviousness and creates a kind of inside joke with the reader. I haven't read this with a kid audience yet, but I bet my little buddies would get a kick out of injecting the fox into the narration.
