Starling House by Alix E. Harrow

dark tense medium-paced

2.5

Okay, let me start off by saying I've previously DNF'd Once and Future Witches and Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow. The writing style just isn't something I get on with. So I went into this assuming I would also DNF it but wanted to give it a chance. However, 115 pages in, I was actually having a good time.
I don't know what happened at the 50% mark though, I suddenly lost interest. The pacing felt really off with this book. Also, the ending felt like it was all over the place. I feel like I just lost my mind, I'm not even fully sure what happened in the end properly.
Overall, 2.5 stars is better than a DNF, but I kinda wish I'd DNF'd once I started losing interest. I kept going because it had started out so much better than I was anticipating. Alas, Alix's books aren't for me, and that's okay, but I know for certain now.
