I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

3.0

This took me longer to get through than I thought it would; so many people I know have been singing this book's praises, and I'm familiar enough with the actress that I was also just personally curious to see what kind of memoir she could produce.

Now, don't get me wrong: this book is brilliantly written. It's clear from McCurdy's writing that this is something she's good at doing, and enjoys doing. I'm happy that she's found this creative field to express herself in (and am curious to know how this will translate to future creative projects).

And everything that McCurdy talks about is worthy reading/listening to (personally, I'd recommend listening to the audiobook if possible). Absolutely. It exposes a part of the industry that a lot of people, myself included, aren't privy to, can only imagine. I'm glad this book exists. But it just isn't for me, I don't think. Plain and simple. There's nothing wrong with it, it just didn't connect.

So, objectively? 4/5 stars.

Personally? I have to go 3/5 stars.

Let's meet in the middle then: 3.5/5 stars.
