One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd
by Jim Fergus
adventurous
challenging
sad
I don't really even know what to say about this book. It was an interesting concept and premise, but it came with some complex feelings as it attempted to put us in the mindset of a time and place in American history that wasn't looking through the lens of today's understanding. However, I still would have liked to have May Dodd reflect a little more on her preconceived notions about the Native Americans that she came to know and call family. I didn't like that in the end it felt like we busted right back to the idea of "savages." It also felt like it couldn't land in the space of comedy vs. tragedy. I just felt kind of gross at the end.
