Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

challenging emotional inspiring reflective sad medium-paced

5.0

To write a review for this book feels weird. A book about a mother and daughter’s bond through food and how irreplaceable that bond is, showing us the complicated relationship that can form between a mother and daughter. I felt the raw honesty about Zauner and her navigation through the world with and without her mother whilst dealing with her father’s way of grief and maintaining a relationship with her aunt who she struggled to communicate with. The grief and trauma she experienced throughout her life and through the death of her mother, trying to hold onto many memories of her mother. A beautiful, poignant and heart-breaking story and if you’d like to tear up even more after reading the book, listen to her first album Psychopomp by Japanese Breakfast.
