Hamlet by William Shakespeare

challenging dark emotional funny medium-paced

5.0

Hamlet was the first Shakespeare I read that caused Shakespeare to “click” for me. I’ll never forget the feeling of reading this in 12th grade and the excitement I felt from “getting it.” However, this momentum was immediately lost because I was no longer an avid reader like I had been in the past.

Fast forward almost 10 years, I’m back into reading and have been hitting a lot of classics. Hamlet was always in the back of my mind as the first classic I would revisit, especially after seeing The Northman and Hamlet (1948). But at the same time, I was a bit nervous it wouldn’t live up to the way I had remembered and my incessant rambling about Hamlet for the last 10 years wouldn’t feel justified.

But it is justified. Hamlet is certainly my favorite Shakespeare, and might just be my favorite story ever told
