Gershon thought he could get away with it. Breaking promises, telling lies. During pre-Shabbat cleaning each Friday, he swept his mistakes into the cellar. Never an apology. Once a year on Rosh Hashanah, all those "thoughtless deeds" were shoved into a shack that Gershon then tossed into the sea. But his ugliness does not stay hidden forever.

Haunted by the "monster" of his own making, Gershon must pursue T'shuvah, or "repentance" to return to his best self.

Eric Kimmel consistently delivers top-quality Jewish picture books. Gershon's Monster brings the spirit and traditions of Rosh Hashanah to life with Jon Muth's vivid illustrations. I loved this rendering of an old Hasidic legend, perfect for the season of repentance and forgiveness coming up.
