sinta 's review for:
On a Sunbeam
by Tillie Walden
The pictures were beautiful - the technique and use of colour created a fantastic feel. But it started all blurring into one after a while. Also, the plot was boring. SO boring that at no point did I look forward to picking this book up. I can’t bear to even give it an extra star for the drawings or the queerness/enby.
I appreciated the enby character and the queerness. I got this book as part of an effort to read a lot of fiction with trans characters. It was never explained why Ell doesn’t talk though? Plus they seem to fall into a current stereotype of quirky enby with some kinda peculiar characteristic (here, not talking). They are also the classic afab-who-is-boyish-enby. I’m looking forward to seeing more diverse portrayals in the future
