I have shockingly little to say about this book.

Yeah, it was fine. I had about 2 moments of genuine emotion, which isn't nothing.

It was pretty brutal for YA, and it kept surprising me that Elias kept being surprised at the brutality. Didn't he grow up this way? It reminded me of Red Rising a little bit with the whole participating-in-a-deadly-competition-to-rule-a-Roman-inspired-world-of-brutal-conquerors-even-though-I-hate-and-mean-to-betray-them thing.

The plot and world still keep most of their mysteries to be revealed later, clearly, but I don't know that I care that much to discover them, honestly. This book was good, but didn't manage to successfully sink its hooks into me.
