Don't Call the Wolf by Aleksandra Ross
4.0
This book was unputdownable!! I found the story to be complex, dark, and in the true spirit of Slavic folktales. The romance was gripping and all the characters on the quest well-rounded. I especially enjoyed the depth of the world, with its capitalistic cities and brand new railroad in stark contrast with the mythic enchanted forest and magical monsters. The writing style reminded me strongly of Terry Pratchett, of all authors, but with horror and magic reminiscent of Uprooted by Naomi Novik. It was also nice to read a stand-alone story which would be satisfactorily resolved by the end. I devoured this book in two days and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique world rooted in creepy folklore, where nothing is fully good or bad.
