This book is the second book in the Mistborn Trilogy. The first book absolutely drew me in and had me hooked and this book was no different. However, I do think that I favoured the first book in the trilogy to this book.

Following the overthrowing and death of the Lord Ruler, Elend is made king with Vin at his side as his assassin. As they try to rebuild a dream kingdom for all those who live in it, an issue arises in the form of an army or two… or three. Whilst Elend fights to fill his role as king and keep his kingdom safe, Vin has found another problem: one far more dangerous than one could imagine.

As with the first book, the work building was absolutely amazing, the actions scenes were, of course, incredibly well written, and the characters continued to steal my heart. Sazed is most definitely one of my absolute favourite characters and the other characters, despite being side characters, have left a mark on me.

Elend and Vin have also grown on me, however, I found a lot of the book being filled with issues that could easily have been solved through actual communication. I found this part of the book rather frustrating at times because it all seemed quite silly by the end of it. However, I love to see the character growth in both of them and I still love the relationship that they have.

The plot of this book was quite different from the first book. The first book was a lot of action and, though there was an amazing political world, it didn’t focus too heavily on it that I got bored as I personally don’t find politics that interesting; it actually confuses me quite a bit. This book was very politic heavy. It did have a lot of action but a lot of the book had so much politics that I did find myself getting a little bored or confused. If you love a good political world, this would be an amazing read for you I think.

Despite that, I was still engaged for most of the book and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. This book wasn’t as plot twist heavy as the first but the plot twists that happened were completely unexpected. Sanderson did an incredible job throwing red herrings into the plot and I was blown away at some of the revelations.

I am so excited to see where the third book of the trilogy takes me because the ending also had me taken aback. It set it up incredibly well for the next book which I will absolutely be reading as soon as I can.
