Of Monsters and Mainframes
by Barbara Truelove
You probably know about the Demeter in Dracula, now make it into the AI of a spaceship that won’t let the immortal bloodthirsty count get away with killing her humans.
The concept of this book was very interesting and a lot of fun. I never thought I would put Dracula and spaceship in the same sentence but here I am. And it was not the only surprises this book had in stock, and I loved that about it. I highly recommend going blind into this one, because not knowing what to expect next makes the experience a lot better.
The plot was a little all over the place, each part getting more bizarre than the last, but in a really good way. The writing style was unique and everything I could expect from an AI system better at calculating data than having human interactions. It was funny and very engaging.
This was not a scary sort of horror, but I had a great time reading this weird sci-fi AI monsters mash adventure.
