Hugely enjoyed this read! Immediately bought the rest of the series, which to me automatically means four stars and above. I don't ever read crime novels, but I've been watching Only Murders in the Building and really enjoying it, and this book came up as a "similar" reading option.
I felt the first third of the book was a little slow as it set the stage, and that's the main reason why I haven't given it 5 stars - I wasn't immediately gripped.
Now I did know who committed the murder as I saw a spoiler on a comment of the film trailer saying they removed the individual from the film - however, I honestly thought I must have misread the comment as I just didn't see how they could change the film plot and have that individual be the murderer - but alas, it appears that was still the case.
Nonetheless, I found it a really enjoyable read that gently delved into topics of ageing, suicide/assisted suicide, and depression - yet without being a total bummer somehow! It's definitely an easy read, and I can see how for some that translates to boring - but for me it was what I needed just now.
The humour is very Richard Osman and you can hear his voice in this book - with some celebrity books you get the sense they are ghostwritten, but I truly believe Richard Osman wrote this himself.
Overall a 4.5 star read for me! Looking forward to reading more in the series.
