A vigilante news publisher and a detective teams up to investigate a human trafficking op. He's righteous, protective with a dark edge, but also sensitive (a man who is not ashamed of tears!). She's strong, fierce with a kind heart. Their attraction had been building since the last book, and finally boils over. The romance progresses fast (Rose's usual and I'm not mad about it) but their connection feels natural and genuine, and there's strong communication.

They also support each other through respective internal angst, with some emotional heart-to-hearts. And he's super enamoured with her! Sensual, steamy times are included. The suspense is great but deals with some dark, difficult themes. *Long* book, but it's a solid read, though painful at times. Also, having Deacon Novak is always a plus point. CW:
(sexual) slavery, human (child) + sex trafficking, torture, rape
