This is a brilliant, easy-to-digest memoir and guide for those suffering from mental illness. It is extremely detailed, and covers pretty much everything from self-regulation to addiction to comfort when seeing support. The fact that it's hand-written and drawn, and that it comes from someone who understands first-hand, makes it all the more valuable.
The book includes badges you can give yourself for self-care, and lists of celebrities who battle bipolar and other mental disorders. It suggests documentaries, websites, films, memoirs, and accessible support websites and local groups. Most of all, it's like having a friend who's been exactly where you have. Her visual descriptions of mania are spot-on. My favorite part is the discussion of red flags and flagpoles, with examples from her own life of when she did and didn't read appropriate signs in her own behavior. There's even a section on 'coming out' about your illness to friends, family, work, and potential partners.
The book is comprehensive, and so friendly and kind. I adore it. I think most anyone battling mental illness, including depression, could get something out of it.
