I finished White's charming debut novel in one sitting, but will not immediately (if at all) continue the series because the charaters are not deep enough. My favorite aspect is how White reimagines the mythical creatures. Indeed, this book would be a great model for anyone willing to bring Filipino (or other) mythology to the mainstream: even though the reader is assumed to be familiar with the creatures (enough to appreciate how White pokes fun at the tropes), White describes them well enough for unfamiliar readers to piece together.
