Tsukishima's character development is one of my favorite arcs, if not the most favorite, out of the character arcs in the manga series. Furudate excels in creating a complex character filled with contradictions and self-inherent emotional struggle like Tsukishima. It is this complexity that makes his desire to improve compelling—there seems to be a sense of duty in practicing his skills, yet as we see more of his story, there's the greed and selfishness he likens to suppress because of his resentment and apathy that overshadows his love for the sports. His gradual development from grievance to acknowledgment and pride at the end is such a treat to feast later on.
