When the Body Says No: Exploring the Stress-Disease Connection by Gabor Maté
Did not finish book. Stopped at 27%.
DNF at 27%
The only thing that makes me want to finish this book is so I can add a low star rating to the algorithm.
(at least from what I've read so far) this is not proper scientific communication. this is "I have a theory and I'm going to shoehorn every piece of anectodal evidence into that theory so that even when I do occasionally quote other studies/research it feels like I'm just doing that to try to sound more trustworthy".
This is a topic that could have been tackled in a way that balances anecdotal experience with scientific evidence but he just makes so many astronomical leaps of logic that I found myself seething with frustration as I turned the pages.
The stories from patients' experiences are also very depressing and heart wrenching. This is something I would be okay with reading about if the commentary by the author was insightful. But instead I was flip flopping between feeling sad for the individuals and angry at the author while learning/understanding nothing.
Will be moving onto other books that are actually worth my time/emotional energy.
