Portrait of a Body by Julie Delporte

emotional reflective
“All those years, I had tried so desperately to be beautiful when I already was.”

PORTRAIT OF A BODY is an exploration of gender and sexuality, and provokes us to remain open to the lessons our bodies have on offer.

This almost felt like reading someone’s diary with corresponding pencil drawings. The text was very intimate and emotional, and I thought her words and illustrations were beautifully paired. Delporte came into her lesbianism later in life, and I found her story very relatable — even though I am not a lesbian myself. But the way she described sex in general really resonated with me.

“It's disturbing to think about all the times I’ve had sex without wanting to. Not because it's slutty or dirty. But really, it's hard not to feel like the whole game is rigged.”
