All Our Yesterdays
by Cristin Terrill
This is a book which had an interesting concept, but its execution left a little to be desired. While a thought-provoking plot concerning time travel, the writing sometimes got in the way of my enjoyment. And there were a lot of holes, such as how did the world get so bad, so fast? The lack of a full (and reasonable) explanation made the story feel incomplete.
But I have to agree, All Our Yesterdays started with a bang. The pacing is generally fast throughout, as Em and Finn go back four years in time to thwart the Doctor from his plan to change the world. Since they know the ultimate consequences, they know their success is critical.
The plot moves back and forth between Em and Finn, and Marina, James, and Finn. You get the history of what the world was like before the Doctor took hold in bits and pieces as the "mission" moves further along.
Honestly, I would have preferred that this be a standalone book. Unfortunately, it ends with an opening for another one (or more) which I'm not so sure I'll read.
