The Summary
Lina is a high school student when her mother passes away with the dying wish that Lina visit goes to Florence, Italy, for the summer. When Lina arrives in Florence she has to face her father, whom she has never met or known about. As though that isn't challenging enough, Lina is given her mother's journal which complicates everything she has just adjusted to. And all the while Lina is falling in love.

My Thoughts
I completed this book in one sitting and found the story really sweet and fun to read. Lina is an interesting character as we follow her throughout her transition into her new life. Lina's mother has a backstory which is told through her journal and I found this really well done. Some of the other characters didn't have much depth (i.e. not much backstory all told in the here and now) but this didn't negatively effect the novel in any way, as the focus was on the present for them.

I thought Florence was written about beautifully, as the major landmarks and attractions were briefly described but really made me want to be there myself. Needless to say, I need to go to Italy after reading this book!

Any Critiques?
In all honesty there wasn't much that put me off this novel. However, towards the end there is a paragraph where Lina is talking to her guardian about how in love she feels. I found this part quite unrealistic considering how there was a huge emphasis on Lina hardly knowing her guardian. For her to then have spill her innermost emotions to her Guardian just didn't feel right.
