The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

5.0

Beautiful and heart wrenching in a way that I will come back to for a long time.

So many of my friends have recommend this book and honestly all of Madeline Miller's works to the point that I was nervous to pick it up. But I am so glad I did.

I haven't studied the Greek Classics but I do enjoy mythology so I felt this was a good balance of trying to remain in the lines of the Iliad while also expanding on the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus.

I adored those two together, from growing up to studying together with Chiron, to going to Troy together. The little family they built in Troy was truly a ray of light in dark times.

But then the heartbreak, the way the end of this book had me sobbing at midnight. The line "when I am dead, I charge you to mingle our ashes and bury us together" absolutely broke me in a way I won't recover from.
