"If you and I are no different, what do we have to give to each other? How can we ever be friends?"
Just really beautiful writing. I love a "day in the life" story and George is one of the most well-formed characters I've read in the format, especially considering how short this book is. I'd been a bit apprehensive about reading this because I'd heard how heart-wrenching it is, but while it was absolutely very moving, I was glad that it wasn't maudlin - it was the opposite; it was full of humour and life. It reminded me of Mrs Dalloway and I loved it for a lot of the same reasons, but Isherwood's perspective and tone made me enjoy this book even more than Woolf's.
