Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen
by Jazz Jennings
Unintentionally, I'm on a bit of a memoir binge, and even though I joke about everyone writing a memoir, I'm grateful that they have because it makes diverse voices more accessible and available. I honestly didn't know anything about Jazz Jennings before picking this up, with the exception that she exists, and is transgender. I had no idea that the Jennings have a TV show.
I enjoyed this, both because, and in spite of, it's lightness. It gives me hope that a girl who is transgender is, at least in the private part of her life, living as a normal teenager with a supportive family. I love that she's confident an determined to make the world a better place with the radical notion that everyone deserves to be loved.
