I wish I had thought to write this book myself, it is so compelling and beautifully composed and the subject of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes is morbidly fascinating. Sylvia Plath is one of my favorite poets and I have always mourned the genius that was cut short by depression and the pain that reverberated on to her family. This is a very complicated, sad, extremely well written, translated from Dutch to English fictional account of their relationship told from Ted Hughes's point of view. It is ultimately tragic and heartbreaking and the author does a good job of getting the reader to perhaps see the husband in another light. Ted Hughes was a total ho and he may or may not have been abusive, but the fallout was extreme and who could say he deserved to live with that kind of aftermath. People are quick to make things black and white. I loved the book. It made me think.
