Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle

5.0

I absolutely loved this book. The mental health representation was incredible. I felt so connected to these two characters, and I saw bits and pieces of myself in them. I felt Maybell’s need to be liked and her frustration with trying and not being able to assert herself with anyone. I felt Wesley’s social anxiety to some degree and I understood him. I felt for them both and I loved seeing their characters grow and try to be better and work on themselves. Mental Health is something that is really important to me, and I’m so glad that it was shown to be something that makes you stronger and that you are loved simply because you are you.

This was one of the sweetest books I’ve read and it had a smile plastered to my face. I couldn’t help but love these characters. I loved the way they bonded, I loved their conversations, I loved the balance between immaturity and the ability to have a serious conversation, I absolutely loved the disagreements and the banter. I loved it all. It was beautiful- the characters, the story, the writing- and had me completely caught up in the story. I didn’t want to put it down. If you liked You Deserve Each Other (which I desperately need to reread now) I think you’ll really like this book, so give it a read!
