Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
3.75
dark sad tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

First half was strong, solid 4 stars, but the second half was just a little too slow for my liking and the tone changed a bit, which lowered my rating. The ending was interesting though so I settled for a 3.75. It will be gross and unsettling for most people, though if you've read a lot horror with themes such as body horror and torture, the book is going to feel less impactful and a bit predictable at times. Interesting commentary about the selfish nature of our societies, a thought-provoking quick read that will make you question some things about the way we live.

Please check TW as there's a lot of graphic and disgusting things going on in this book.

If you love animals though,
please beware some things are very hard to read. Things like teenagers abusing and killing puppies. That was particularly hard for me to stomach, despite the entire book being disturbing.
