Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
2.0

I listened to the audio version of this novel via the Libby app.

So the story itself was really fascinating. I was very invested in the characters, wanted to know what was happening, wanted them to work it all out, etc. The problem came in the form of the long, and I mean LONG, speeches by characters. There was one radio broadcast speech that lasted over an hour. I'm telling you, I checked out about 15 minutes into it and didn't resurface for a really long time. I understand people being passionate about their ideals, but I cannot follow long speeches either listening or reading them. After a while, all I hear are adults on Charlie Brown.

I was so invested in the book, though, that when my borrowing time was up, I put myself back on the list to get it again. It took me three weeks to listen to the entire book, but there was almost a month in between where I could wait to get the book back to find out how it ended.

Overall, I enjoyed the story aspect of the story. The yuck for me came in the interminable speeches given by characters on the rightness of their specific "cause."
