The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell

The book starts out well - Holly is interesting as is the supernatural element. But then suddenly Holly’s story seems to be finished and we have to hear about every droll and disgusting thought that goes through the head of a middle class university student who isn’t interesting, sympathetic, or likeable - I can’t even remember his name at this point. The supernatural elements basically vanish til the end of his section. It’s a relief to begin the next novella and somewhat interesting, but then novella 4 is just painful with some character that kept switching between referring to himself in the first and third person. And I thought maybe his body was being borrowed but that did not seem to be the case and honestly couldn’t stand to hear anymore from this character so I returned the book and found something else to read. Maybe it gets better in the fifth novella, but if two of them are basically unreadable then I think two stars is being generous.
