I love going into a book knowing nothing about it and then really enjoying it. I was taken in by the cover, then by the flip book in the corners, before getting into the actual story!

This had mystery, danger family secrets dating back centuries, rampant misogyny and a whole heap of punch-the-air feminism. Of the three stories I found Kate's most compelling, probably because of the modern setting and the way it tied into the other two timelines so well. But I also loved Altha and Violet (though Altha slightly more).

I found myself really grateful for Graham's character because there really were very few decent men to be found! But I loved how that gave these incredible women the space to find and embrace their own power (figurative and literal). Each woman's life is littered with tragedy, but there's a whole "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" that drew me right in and hooked me more as I went on.
