Significant upgrade over the first book, it finally started having it's own flair instead of just doing what everyone else is doing. That being said, some POVs were still boring and generic. 

I wish the whole Rist plotline didn't exist. We've all known what's gonna happen since he got kidnapped in the first book and got placed in the magic academy. I want the conflict between him and Calen to happen already so we can move on to the ACTUALLY interesting part of what happens after. I keep chanting 'journey before destination' while suffering through his chapters but the journey is so predictable and irrelevant.
