The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

5.0

So. Fucking. Good. This book wrecked me and reflected so many thoughts I've had, but never seen represented in literature. Plath's writing is addictively honest and the pain of her life and depression is evident on every page.

Update: I just read this novel again and it took me even less time than the first time. I could not put this book down. Sylvia reflects pain in a way no other author can. No other book has hit me at the same emotional level of The Bell Jar. This is my favorite novel of all time for sure.

Updated update: Read The Bell Jar for a third time and relate to it more than ever. I think Esther Greenwood reflects a pain that a lot of people in their 20s feel. Plath’s semi-autobiographical depiction of Esther is raw, real, and unrestrained. This novel feels gut-wrenchingly authentic and I think that’s why it resonates so intensely with me. Still my favorite novel of all time.
