I‘m so sorry, but this might be my most disappointing read of the year.
Horror Hotel has so much potential with the plot, the setting even down to the characters but everything is so poorly executed.
The characters bothered me the most. They were so annoying and unlovable. The authors state multiple times how they are all best friends and trust each other but none of that seems to be actually written into the story. Especially the guy of the friend group is so cliché, crossing boundaries multiple times and is just being a selfish dick but he still manages to gain everything he wishes for in the end… just like real life I guess.
Kiki is the only one who‘s somewhat interesting and muti faceted, but she‘s portrayed as a feminist activist which is why she seems to have double standards when it come to her friend group.
The plot twist really wasn‘t one at all for me, it was really foreseeable and I think that is due to lazy writing which can also be found in the different perspectives the book is written in. The authors seemingly opt for easy explanations instead of building the characters and story mindfully.
There are so many characteristings that are written into the book but not actually lived or experienced by the characters at all. Feels like the authors were trying too hard.
The plot is actually interesting imo. and the book is very accessible, easy to read though, but all in all Horror Hotel was very disappointing to me personally.
