Deadly Class Volume 1: Reagan Youth by Rick Remender
4.0
4/5
The concept of this series sparked my interest from the start, I mean who doesn't want to read about young assassins-in-training?
+ Set in the 80s, gritty (definitely not your typical teen series about growing up... which was what I initially expected)
+ The start (specifically issue #1) and end were the most intriguing parts; I felt like I was on a wild ride during the final moments.
+ Marcus' group of misfits were individually interesting and I look forward to learning more about their backgrounds, especially Saya's.
+ The artwork was amazing. I love the different layouts used, they were very effective in particular moments.
+ The Smiths ;)
+
- None of the baddies were really standout so far.
- The conclusion seemed like a cop out, It all felt too convenient.
Overall, it was not what I was expecting out of a series about a school of assassins, but it was still a cool first couple of issues and I'm looking forward to reading the next volume.

Spoiler
Marcus' acid trip had its entertaining parts and the panels were so vivid.- None of the baddies were really standout so far.
Spoiler
Chico became a threat, but his reasoning felt very generic as he suspected something going on between Marcus and Maria, stalking them and just taking things way too far. (I mean he killed 3 cops and the cashier???) Don't get me wrong it was entertaining to read, but the whole time I just thought to myself wut is happening.. that escalated quickly lol. Also Marcus' old roommate Chester, the weird dude who is into bestiality, was just plain crazy and out to get Marcus.- The conclusion seemed like a cop out,
Spoiler
Chester announcing to Marcus & friends to toughen him up for an all out brawl in the future, leaving them but taking Chico's corpse and a cat.(ugh)Overall, it was not what I was expecting out of a series about a school of assassins, but it was still a cool first couple of issues and I'm looking forward to reading the next volume.
