The Night and Its Moon
by Piper C.J.
I want to start out by saying I have no idea what kind of drama went on with this series and whatever happened (I can’t seem to find a straight answer on the issue?) is not being considered in the below review.
I really enjoyed this book. Truly. For a debut author to put something out there that is different from mainstream romantasy must be scary and I applaud that. I love the lore and would love to see that explored more in later books, I thought the characters were relatable and just imperfect enough to be realistic. I loved the way the SWer character (trying to avoid spoilers) likened her work to chess and I thought each of those scenes was really well done.
My only critiques would be the lack of editing but that’s pretty common in indie-published books (which I believe this was the first time around) and the backstory was a little long, which made me think of the characters as children too far into the book. I would have loved to read more about the monster lore, reever practices, and the character relationships with the other reevers and fae.
Overall I give it 5 ⭐️ because I didn’t want to put it down & I found myself invested in Nox and curious to read the next.
